They refer to the same category of equipment. A flow packing machine — also called a horizontal flow wrapper or HFFS machine — forms a film tube around a product, seals the longitudinal back seam, then cuts and seals both end seals to produce a finished pillow bag. "Flow wrapper" is more common in North America and Europe; "flow packing machine" is standard in Asia-Pacific markets. HFFS (Horizontal Form Fill Seal) is the universal engineering abbreviation.
Rotary motion jaws rotate continuously and suit high-speed lines up to 230 packs/min with firm, uniformly shaped products. Box motion (long-dwell) jaws travel in a rectangular path alongside the product, providing extended contact time — critical for thick barrier laminates, frozen-food PE films, or any application requiring an airtight hermetic seal. If you are packaging for modified atmosphere (MAP) or high-moisture cold environments, box motion is the correct choice.
All Soontact HFFS machines run OPP, BOPP, CPP, PET laminates, metallised BOPP and MetPET, aluminium foil laminates, PE / LDPE films, cold-seal structures, and biodegradable / compostable mono-materials. Film compatibility depends on the sealing jaw's temperature range and dwell time. Servo-driven models (TL-FP-180, TL-FP-450, TL-FP-1000) store up to 100 product recipes on the HMI touchscreen. Parameter-only changeovers — bag length, sealing temperature, conveyor speed — complete in 5–10 minutes as the servo system adjusts automatically. Physical tooling changes, such as swapping the forming tube or guide rails for a significantly different product size, add time depending on the magnitude of the change.
Yes. Soontact designs complete integrated secondary packaging lines connecting flow wrappers directly to the TL-CT-200C robotic cartoning system (up to 200 picks/min via vision-guided delta robots executing flying picks without stopping the conveyor) and TL-PR series palletising robots. Metal detectors, weight checkers, and date printers integrate inline. The full line handles flow wrapping through to palletised case output without manual product handling between stages.
